This new development in Tighnabruaich went on site on Monday 19th November 2018. The project involved the construction of 20 new homes for affordable rent within this remote area of Argyll, with a mixture of 1, 2, 3 & 4 bedroom properties. Some of the houses were adapted during the works for specific tenants with disabilities.
These high-quality new homes were the first in the area to meet the Scottish Government’s ‘Greener Homes’ standard for energy efficiency and were handed over in January 2021. Our work in achieving this standard has helped inform the energy efficiency strategy for our housing projects since. There is no doubt that the emerging climate crisis is one of the foremost challenges that we all face at this moment. It demands action from everyone and we all have a part to play in limiting the further exacerbation of climate change locally, nationally and globally.
The development, which involved an investment of £4M was made possible with financial support from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme, Argyll & Bute Council’s Strategic Housing Fund and Fyne Homes’ own finance. It involved us redesigning our already efficient energy house type up to a higher standard through careful manipulation of fabric first design and material use. We used our in-house SAP tools to develop the design towards the Greener Homes Standards in a live update style to maximise potential performance. We believe that this experience and capability places us in a strong position as we aim even higher to achieve the government targets on low energy EESSH2 homes and Net Zero house design.
