Margaret Brown House

Keills, Islay

Following completion of a smaller house nearby we were appointed by Margaret Brown to design her a bespoke house to maximise a large plot to the back of Keills. The site had great views across to Laggan Bay, the Oa and to the Paps of Jura. Margaret preferred the main views to the Oa so we orientated the house in that direction.

We took the opportunity to use natural materials for the finishes, but with a modern and contemporary design that would give her and her young family all the space and flexibility that they would need for modern living. Downstairs we utilised the great views to place the Kitchen to the front of the house. This connected to a dining space and living area beyond. An open staircase lifted the eyes upwards to rooflights and bedrooms on the first floor. Two large bedrooms were placed to the front, each with ensuite facilities. With two further double bedrooms and a bathroom to the rear.

The house is set into a large site with a matching garage currently planned to go within landscaped grounds.
