This end terrace bungalow had already had an attic conversion but was now at the point whereby living and expansion space had run out. we added a double storey extension to the rear with an amended main entrance layout. This gave our client the space they needed to continue family life in this house.
This project was particularly notable for us as the double storey extension had the potential to block out the light from the neighbouring property. Indeed, we fell foul of the 45° rule and the planners were poised to reject our design. We had designed it in Revit/ BIM and this allowed us to set up a daylight animation for both equinoxes that gave the precise sunlight and shading information for that location. Our daylight studies proved that there was not going to be any loss of sunlight, and the planners accepted our analysis. We have utilised that method many times since with great success.
