West Highland Housing
The development of housing at Imeraval at Port Ellen represented the largest creation for new housing to this part of Islay in its history. Upwards of 80 units were planned, to be delivered over several phases. In a mixture of sizes as well as tenure this would provide a lasting legacy of new homes on the island and would transform Port Ellen.
We were tasked with setting out a detailed masterplan so that this development could be delivered sustainably. It involved a lot of new infrastructure. We wanted the homes to be slightly different from the Bowmore or Islay style so as they could have larger windows to maximise the beautiful views at this part of the island.
The masterplan was split into five phases as seen in the hand drawn sketches shown on the right.
